Why People Give to Charity
In 2015, U.S. individuals donated $264.68bn to charity, an all time high, but nowhere near maximum potential. These individuals gave for three reasons.

- Show Off: I donate because I want to show off.
Most nonprofit marketing targets “Better World” donors. These nonprofits pursue a noble cause and try to reach donor’s emotions through storytelling, sharing photos and videos etc. This works, but it produces one-time donations as people respond to temporary emotional spikes.

Nonprofits are limited in ability to change this cycle, say through investment in technology or innovative marketing campaigns, due to unavailability of funding and the necessity to maintain a marketable, and ethical, spending ratio between operational and program spending.

CharityX provides a recurring alternative revenue source, frees up time to meet program demands and has the potential to save billions in fundraising costs. All money raised with CharityX goes to nonprofits, 100% of every donation. We even cover credit card processing fees.
Even though this create a more challenging situation to maintain a sustainable organization, we believe it’s the right thing to do. Ultimately, CharityX exists to support the best nonprofits who are out doing the hard work. Therefore any additional benefit we can provide is our duty.

One way that we’re making this possible is by allowing donors to choose any registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. This helps because everyone has their own ideas about what matters most, and how best to make the world a better place. Another core principle is the responsibility in both the design and functionality of our platform. While technology obviously has many benefits, there is also a downside. Many of the most popular platforms—like Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram—are designed to hold your attention. They study the behavior of millions of users and use the data to optimize their platforms to increase the amount of time people spend logged in.
At CharityX, we’re taking the opposite approach. We believe that technology should be used to add value and interaction to your life, not take it away. That’s why donating with CharityX only provides you with the information you want, when you want it. Like updates on your nonprofit only once a month. And monthly impact reports only if you’ve chosen to stay in the loop.
